DM launches ‘Your Weight in Gold’ initiative

Dubai Municipality has launched a community initiative under the slogan 'Your Weight in Gold' aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle and encouraging the society members to achieve optimal body weight and maintain it.

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality, has declared this initiative after the grand success of 'Yallah Walk' initiative launched in 2011. Senior officials of Dubai Municipality, Ahmed bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of Dubai Multi Commodities Center and Anil Dhanak, General Manager of Dubai Gold& Jewelry Group were present on the occasion.

‘It is also aimed at introducing the walking tracks in different parks in the city of Dubai. The walking is as an easy and economic way to stay fit and healthy that people can easily apply into their day-to-day life. Municipality has provided residents with safe and accessible walking tracks in urban and rural contexts,’ Lootah said.

‘Currently Dubai has total 91 places to practice sport activities including, residential parks, public parks, squires, jogging track and beaches. In addition, Every year the civic body opens new parks in more areas and adds sports equipments and tools for public to promote a healthy community, he said.    

‘Ramadan is the most appropriate season to launch such initiatives as it reminds us about many health benefits of reducing weight and encourages us to take strong steps to change our bad lifestyles,’ he added.   

Ahmed Bin Sulayem said: ‘DMCC is proud to work with Dubai Municipality and DGJG to further support HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai’s ‘You are Worth Your Weight in Gold’ health awareness drive to encourage society to change their daily routines in return for a healthier lifestyle.

‘We would highly encourage everyone from all walks of life to take part in this great initiative and hope DMCC’s contribution of AED 100,000 worth of gold coins will help motivate individuals reach the final target of improving and sustaining a healthy lifestyle and consequently a better quality of life,’ he said.

Anil Dhanak, DGJG, said it is amazing to know that the municipality takes initiative to encourage people for healthy lifestyle and I believe that this how Dubai distinguishes from other cities in the world. I am sure Dubai can be the role model and astonish the world by its innovative ideas and initiatives.

The weight losing contest sponsored by DGJG and DMCC is open for public. The winners will get 2 gram gold if they could reduce at least 2 kg weight of their body within one month. 

The winner will be the one who loses the highest weight during the program period of 30 days from its inception on 19 July 2013. Minimum weight to lose for the eligibility is 2kg. The participant will get one gram of gold for each kilo reduced from his/her body weight.

Top three winners will get a gold coin equivalent to Dh 20,000  through lucky draw .The weight of each participant will be measured on registration time and at the end of programme. Participants can register in the event sites any day during the period. Participant must have excess weight to reduce and stay away from unhealthy methods to lose weight and should be present on the final day to measure weight.

The programme volunteers will  record the weights of participants using national ID number in five sites namely Gate -3 of Zabeel Park , Main Gate of Khawaneej jogging track ,  Starting point of jogging track at Mamzar Beach, Gate 4 of Safa Park  and Main Gate of Al Barsha Park.

Registration is open  from 8 pm to 12 midnight and the final weight will be measured after the Eid holidays on 16 August 2013
