Civic Body reveals plans to achieve Dubai Smart City DM to organise 2nd GIS Conference

Eng. Abdulla Rafia , assistant director general for engineering and planning sector at Dubai Municipality, has revealed that the civic body is preparing to organise the second Geographic Information System Conference in February 2015, the details of which will be announced soon.

Eng. Rafia was addressing the second edition of GIS conference organized by the American University under the patronage of DM.  

He highlighted the role of DM in the process of harmonizing among government entities in the field of geographic data and requirements for continued maintenance in order to ensure the continuity, safety and reach to the relevant parties in proper way.

Rafia also spoke about the vision of civic body in achieving the smart city and its role in simplifying and generalising such information to directly address the public.

Eng. Rafia also inaugurated the Arab Future Cities Conference and shed light on the strategies of Dubai Municipality in the planning for projects with the aim at achieving the Dubai Smart City concept, where he highlighted the sustainability policy in the natural resources, impact of effective planning, spreading green area, maintenance of historical places, biodiversity and support of desert conservation activities.

He explained Dubai’s roadmap from five main aspects towards achieving the smart city which included the corporate framework, scientific research, development, awareness and stimulus programs.

He also shed light on the strategy of integrated energy in Dubai by 2030 in order to ensure sustainable supply of energy and boost the efficiency.

In addition, he spoke about the green building rules, green roofs, sustainable concrete materials , cooling public areas, implementing LED systems for illuminating public places, improving efficiency of irrigation , use of treated water and salt water.
