Dubai Car Free Day to be held on February 4th
Dubai hopes to set a record next month when it encourages residents to go “car free”.
Dubai Municipality is holding the sixth Car Free Day on February 4, and encourages people to use public transport such as the metro rather than cars.
The municipality launched the initiative in 2010, which it said reduced carbon-dioxide and other emissions from vehicles.
More than 2 million vehicles use Dubai roads per day, which is more than the road network’s capacity, the municipality said.
“This creates a key challenge to ensure seamless traffic movement across the emirate,” Dubai Municipality said.
Government organizations and departments, educational institutions and businesses are invited to participate.
Sixty-six entities participated in the last Car Free Day, leading to about 7,000 vehicles not being used, the municipality said.
