The Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality has opened electronic channels to print documents of food labels’ assessment reports for packaged food products enabling food merchants in the emirate avail the service electronically without visiting Municipality service centers.
Eng. Ahmed Al Ali, Head of Food Studies and Systems Section said that 26,500 such assessment requests were evaluated in the first half of 2018. “We achieved zero visits after the introduction of this service. We used to get more than 1,000 customers a month to the service centers,” he said.
“The move is in line with Dubai’s vision to become one of the smartest cities in the world, providing the highest comfort to its customers. It is also part of Dubai Government’s initiatives to become a food trade hub in the region and the Food Safety Department initiatives to become a leader in food safety enhancing community confidence in the safety of their food,” said Al Ali.
He said the food label evaluation service enables food traders and manufacturers to meet the food label requirements in accordance with the UAE and Gulf standards and it also ensures that the food products available in the market are compliant with the rules and regulations.
