Dubai Municipality strengthens precautionary and preventive measures in building control

Dubai Municipality has taken a set of precautionary and preventive measures to address the epidemic of Corona Virus, Covid-19 in the field of building control. The civic body’s steps reflect the directives of the wise leadership within the framework of strengthening efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of all groups of the society. This includes the continuation of work at construction sites in accordance with safety requirements and controls.
The Municipality has issued a set of circulars and guidelines for preventive and precautionary measures that must be applied in construction sites and workers’ accommodations, as well as the intensifying cleaning and disinfection procedures and processes there. The Municipality stressed the need to adhere to what was stated in the circulars to ensure the utmost security and safety for all workers in the construction sector as well as the neighborhood.
The circulars also included transport and movement controls to and from construction sites and the procedures to be followed in the workers’ buses, in addition to not allowing workers to move outside the boundaries of the project site and the categories exempt from the ban related to the construction sector.
This is to address the epidemic and in response and in compliance with the decision issued to restrict movement in the Emirate of Dubai in a timely manner.
The Municipality has intensified control and field inspections of building projects under construction, to ensure that all preventive and precautionary measures are implemented and complied with the circulars and instructions. A total of 50,000 inspection visits were conducted in 12,331 buildings under construction during the last two months, in addition to responding to emergency reports around the clock in all areas of the Emirate of Dubai.
The precautionary measures that are checked in the sites under construction included: wearing protective masks and gloves, providing sterilization equipment in multiple locations of the site, measuring the temperature of workers before entering the site, maintaining physical distancing and avoiding gatherings, leaving a distance between workers during riding and getting off buses, conducting continuous sterilization of worksites and project extensions, avoiding overcrowding in temporary and permanent elevators, providing dedicated waste containers on-site, providing protective clothing for workers in project warehouses, distributing times for workers’ breaks, providing distancing in the office for the cadres working on the site, and providing one-time use plates and cups.
