“An Hour with the cleaning worker” initiative, is considered a new educational method of awareness, which is called education by practice, where the volunteer initiates the tasks of the cleaning worker for an hour and at the end of each initiative in the field, the cleaning worker presents a certificate of thanks and appreciation to the initiative volunteer group in recognition of his wonderful work and help cleaning the city.

Sharjah Government Communication Award

Dubai Municipality, represented by the Human Resources department, has won Sharjah Government Communication Award for the Best Practice in Internal Communication category, with aim of achieving effective communication between Dubai Municipality and all concerned parties internally and externally. Human Resources department has implemented the methodology of internal communication, which aims to enhance internal communication between different categories of employees.

Regarding that the Architecture Heritage Department had repaired this house in 1997.

1. Restoration of Old Souq in Dubai: It includes the Old Souq in Bur Dubai and Deira as well as the traditional markets.

2. Renovation of Shindagha historical mosques: It includes six historic mosques in the old Shindagha area, which date back to 1896 to 1955. The mosques were maintained and renovated using traditional materials and style considering its historical importance. They are the social and historical record of that period’s society.

3. Restoration of Al Bastakiya Historical Area: The area contains 55 historical buildings that distinguish themselves with their wind towers, enclosures and traditional decorations. The oldest of the houses dates back to 1896 and the latest to 1955. The Architectural Heritage Department carried out the renovation of these houses from 1955 until 2008 at a cost of Dhs50 million.

Guinness Book of Records for the Largest Flower Carpet

Dubai Municipality managed to enter the Guinness Book of Records on 12 February 2003 for producing the largest flower carpet at Al Safa Park as part of the activities during the Dubai Shopping Festival in 2003 . The size of the carpet was 2040 Square Meters and it was composed of 65,210 plants.

Award for Engineering Distinction in Traffic Calming

The award is usually granted to the excellent engineering projects by the Consultant Engineers of South Carolina. In 2003, it was issued to Dubai Municipality’s Roads Department for the preparation and implementation of the Traffic Calming Manual for Dubai which increases and helps the traffic safety.

Arab Towns Organization Award – beautiful city

The e-Clinic concept, initiated by Ms. Zohoor, linking the DM clinic with thd Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department, has done away with most paper works and reduced customers’ number of visits to the clinic.
