With reference to the news on social media about the withdrawal of Almarai products from the market due to the large number of consumer complaints about a strange taste similar to chlorine in some dairy products and juices of Almarai Company. The company withdrew some of its dairy and juice products from the market, and no official response was issued by Almarai.
The following is the Food Safety Department’s response to this inquiry:
Dubai municipality confirms that all Almarai products in the local markets are safe and free from pollutants that have caused complaints from the public in KSA, after the Food Safety Department in Dubai Municipality carried out the following procedures:
1. Samples were taken under the supervision of the food safety department from the products identified by the information received on social media platforms that published the news, with the aim of verifying the authenticity if the news and finding out the reasons for the presence of this unacceptable taste in those products.
2. 292 samples of 4 types of full-fat and low-fat milk and juices were recalled, and the results showed that they were safe. During the past few days, the company recalled these products from the markets as a precautionary measure.
• For your information, a number of the company’s products, such as milk, juices, and Almarai baked goods, are manufactured and produced locally in the UAE, according to the standards and requirements in the country.
• Dubai municipality confirms that all locally produced food is subject to strict control processes that ensure its safety, as Dubai Municipality makes sure that it is suitable for human consumption, and has the necessary capabilities for that, and the necessary tests are available in Dubai Central Laboratory to ensure food safety and that it is free from any harmful pollutants to human health.
The Food Safety Department also advises the honorable public not to believe and circulate news related to food and to ensure its authenticity by communicating with reliable official sources through official communication channels.
