Dubai Municipality Confirms Safety of Coca-Cola Products in UAE Market
17 March 2025
Dubai Municipality, in response to an enquiry received through the “Al-Khabar Al-Yaqeen” channel regarding news circulating on social media about the recall of Coca-Cola products in several European countries due to the presence of chlorate and their availability in local markets, has issued the following clarification:
In coordination with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, Dubai Municipality contacted the Coca-Cola Eurasia Middle East representative in the UAE. Both the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Coca-Cola producing company confirmed that Coca-Cola products in the UAE market do not contain unusual levels of chlorates.
The Ministry further clarified through its official account on the “X” platform that all Coca-Cola products sold in local markets are safe and comply with UAE food safety requirements and standards.
This clarification followed an announcement by Coca-Cola, stating that it had initiated a large-scale recall of its products in Belgium, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Luxembourg after tests detected high levels of chlorates.
The Ministry emphasised that the products sold in UAE markets are not affected by this recall, as they are produced locally at Coca-Cola bottling factories in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring food safety and protecting consumer health through continuous coordination with all relevant food safety authorities in the country.
