The Mohammed Bin Rashid Library embodies a rich history of cultures and civilizations and is a distinctive cultural landmark in which education, culture and tourism intertwine. The library has more than 4 million books and an exceptional collection of documents, references, articles, newspapers, publications, presentations, documentaries and lectures.
The library is a representation of Dubai's cultural face and a forum that allows you to electronically connect with renowned international libraries to exchange rare and valuable information. The library offers an integrated database that contains soft copies of its entire contents.
The Library's Architectural Concept:
With a design that is symbolic of Dubai’s uniqueness, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has shape of an open book. The architectural concept is based on the traditional nomadic travellers who carry their books with them, especially the Holy Quran. However, the library is also in harmony of with the world of the twenty-first century. This holds great symbolism and is an indicator to the UAE cultural treasures that the library holds, from literary collections, publications and media productions to the latest audio-visual technologies.
In 2018, the Australian Traveller website chose Mohammed Bin Rashid Library among its top 10 most impressive destinations and buildings. The library also ranked 5th in architectural buildings category.
A main building that includes the basement, ground floor, and seven upper floors, containing: Central book warehouse (Auto Store), Book preservation Laboratory, Collection and material processing centre, Digitization Laboratory Specialized libraries, including: Al Maktoum Special Collections Library, Maps and Atlases Library, General Library, Business Library, Emirates Library, Young Adults Library, Children's Library, Media & Arts Library, Periodicals Library, Audio-visual Publications, Internet Services and Information Centre: Cultural services, such as documentaries and live lectures from all over the world, Many areas for open reading and permanent and temporary exhibitions,Sections for borrowing books to help guests, visitors and tourists keep up with global, cultural, and scientific development, Meeting rooms, Classrooms and study rooms, Auditorium, Café General site works, infrastructure work, gardening and landscaping, in addition to an amphitheater.
