Rumours about frying oil, water bottles and pizza containers can cause food poisoning

Dubai Municipality confirms that food contact materials, including imported food storage containers and traded in the local markets or manufactured locally, are subject to supervision and verification of compliance with the approved safety specifications and requirements according to the best international standards, and laboratory tests are conducted to verify their safety and freedom from harmful substances. It confirms that water bottles and pizza containers are intended for single use and re-use may cause health damage to the consumer and are not capable and not intended for reuse. The Dubai Municipality, through the recall and survey systems in the Montajy system, tracks the status of consumer products that may affect consumer safety at the local and regional levels It also appeals to all individuals and institutions to quickly report and communicate with us through my product window in the unified application of Dubai Municipality regarding everything related to the safety and registration of consumer products.

Food Safety Administration response:

In general, it is recommended to reduce the consumption of fried products in deep oil, as they are high in fat and calories, and to replace them with grilled, boiled and steamed foods because they are more healthy.

As for the repeated use of frying oil, it can be used more than once without causing poisoning or damage to the consumer by following the following instructions:

  • Avoid leaving the oil on the fire for long periods after the completion of frying so that it does not burn.
  • When the oil has cooled, it must be filtered and any food residues stuck in the oil should be removed if any.
  • The oil must be well purified from impurities by passing it on a clean white cloth or passing it on a paper filter.
  • Use good oils suitable for deep frying, as they can be used to cook food at high temperatures.
  • As for the role of the competent authorities in monitoring restaurants and inspecting the use of frying oils, the inspectors monitor the frying oils and ensure the safety of the used oils by using special devices to check their validity. The administration has devices to measure the quality and validity of these oils.
