Dubai Municipality launches electronic platform for exchange of recyclable or reusable materials
23 August 2021
As part of its efforts to enhance environmental sustainability in the emirate, Dubai Municipality has launched an electronic platform for the exchange of recyclable and reusable materials.
The e-platform, aimed at reducing the quantities of waste produced and raising the percentage of waste diverted from the landfill, is considered one of the environmental initiatives that support the achievement of the objectives of the National Agenda, and the strengthening of Dubai’s position as a sustainable city.
The establishment of such an electronic platform for the exchange of recyclable or reusable materials is the first of its kind in the region. It links the reusable or recyclable materials generating party (individuals and companies) with the other parties that may benefit from these materials in the manufacture of new products. This contributes to promoting Dubai’s adoption of the concept of a circular economy.
The initiative aims primarily to make Dubai an environmentally friendly city by reducing the environmental impacts of waste, as this initiative contributes directly to achieving the goals of the national index for diverting 75% of waste from the landfill, and thus raising the rates and quality of recycled materials and achieving the strategic objective No. 19 of the Municipality’s strategic plan for integrated waste management.
The initiative also aims to encourage all groups and segments of society to follow the best international practices adopted in the field of sustainable waste disposal and to establish a culture of environmental protection and preservation of natural resources. The components of the waste produced in the Emirate of Dubai are recyclable materials, and the website will contribute to reducing the random disposal of waste, and support the trend of providing smart and integrated services to the public and customers.
