With regards to the rumor concerning that bananas imported from Somalia contain a worm called Helicobacter, which affects human health and causes brain death. Here is the Food Safety Department’s response to this rumor:

– Dubai Municipality confirms that this news is not true, and warns the honorable public of the danger of circulating such rumors that are circulated through social networking sites in the form of videos, information or advice (usually anonymous) if they are not from reliable or official sources.

– The video contains false information, as it indicates the presence of Helicobacter worm in banana fruits, but Helicobacter is a type of bacteria and not a type of worm, and it is not customary for the worm to complete its life cycle inside the fruit until it becomes this large as it appeared in video.

-Foods are one of the most controlled products by the specialized authorities in the country due to its importance and direct impact on the health of community members, where the safety and integrity of its components and conformity with the technical regulations and specifications approved at all stages of its circulation are verified.
