Rumours about Lipton Tea products containing insects

With reference to the inquiry about the authenticity of the news circulated about the ban of 22 Lipton products by the State of France because they contain an insect (Lasioderma Serricorne).

The following is the Food Safety Department’s response to this inquiry:

Dubai Municipality confirms that Lipton Products traded in the local markets are free from this insect infestation and that they are suitable for human consumption. Contact has also been made with the importing and manufacturing company of Lipton products, where the company confirmed in an official letter the following:

  1. The infestation appeared only on the French Island of “Le Reunion “ located in the Indian Ocean, and that the infestation was the result of the spread of the insect in the warehouses of “Le Port”.
  2. Measures have been taken to address the problem, identify and dispose of infected products, and ensure that they do not spread to other places.
  3. The company also conducted comprehensive checks on its supply chains and found that they were free of any insect infestation.

The Food Safety Department confirms the safety of the products in the local markets and that they meet the approved specifications. The Food Safety Department monitors all food products including conducting the required laboratory tests.
