First construction license for 3D printing technology
12 January 2024
In 2021, Dubai Municipality constructed a two-storey 640 square meter building using 3D printing technology. At a height of 9.5 meters, the structure was a world first and clearly showed the feasibility of transforming construction projects in Dubai.
Just 2 years later the Dubai Municipality Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency has issued the first construction license for a private villa using 3D printing technology as part of the drive to transition 25% of building construction from conventional methods to this new technology. Why is this important? This technology significantly reduces costs and timelines for building projects. In addition, construction waste could be reduced by up to 60% which is a key success factor for a more sustainable construction industry in Dubai.
The Municipality offers support and facilities to monitor the usage of this innovative technology as further encouragement for contractors, engineers, investors, and real estate developers to adopt and use the technology in their building operations.
