Race to Zero
Dubai Municipality was a proud participant in the Race to Zero campaign, taking rigorous and immediate action to halve global emissions by 2030. Race to Zero was a global movement that united non-state actors—including companies, cities, regions, financial institutions, educational organizations, and healthcare sectors—to drive urgent climate action and contribute to a healthier, more equitable, and sustainable zero-carbon world.
Since June 2020, more than 11,000 members had joined the campaign, committing to the same goal: reducing emissions across all scopes swiftly and fairly in alignment with the Paris Agreement. These efforts were backed by transparent action plans and robust near-term targets, ensuring accountability and meaningful progress toward a greener future.
All members adhered to stringent, science-based criteria, which were further refined through an extensive consultation process in June 2022. Partner initiatives played a key role in guiding members to the starting line, ensuring that their journey toward net-zero emissions was credible and impactful.
Initiatives:
One of Dubai Municipality’s activations during COP28 was the Art for Change Initiative, which combined sustainability with artistic expression. As part of this initiative, the iconic Deira Clock Tower was illuminated with a striking digital artwork—a seascape showcasing coral reefs and marine life. This display served as a powerful visual reminder of the importance of ocean conservation and the urgent need to protect marine ecosystems, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change and preserve biodiversity.
