Scientific name: Phragmites australis

Found along the southern boundary of the sanctuary in the marshy locales.

It is a helophyte found near water.

Long leaves  up to 20 to 50 cm

Flowers in summer.​

Shrubs of Calligonum comosum are found along the southern boundary of RAKWS.

Fruits are edible.

The plant has medicinal properties of an astringent and tonic. Sometimes used for stomach problems and toothaches.

Used as firewood and fodder for livestock.​ Also used and a scent and dye for hair.​

Scientific name: Cyperus congllomeratus

Found in the raised land around lagoons at RAKWS.

Perennial Plant.

Stems  upto 30 cm high.

Brown and greened colour flowers.

Scientific name: Zygophyllum hamiense

​Found on raiseds land around lagoon at RAKWS.

Salt tolerant dwarf shrub native to Arabian Peninsula.

Its small leaves are fleshy to store water.

The leaflets grow in pairs and the flowers have four to five petals.

Flowers are mostly white and yellow in colour.

It can survive in the leafless state for several years.​

Scientific Name: Halopeplis perfoliata

Found in the mudlfats/sabhka areas of RAKWS

A halophyte perennial with fleshy leaves

Upto 0.5 m high.

Flowers from June to August​

Scientific name: Tamarix sp.

Found in the mudflats/sabkha areas of RAKWS.

Evergreen an d deciduous shrubs growing between 1-18 m high.

They have slender branches and grey-green foliage.

Flowers are whitish-pink and bloom from March – September.

Their roots grow deep to absorb water from underground.​
