Information Security Awareness in Dubai Municipality

Our Core Security Objectives

Our commitment is to protect your information and public services by ensuring:

Confidentiality: Protecting all sensitive information (especially customers’ PII) from unauthorized access.

Integrity: Guaranteeing the accuracy and authenticity of all data and transactions on the portal.

Availability: Maintaining resilient and reliable systems so public services are accessible when needed.

Compliance: Adhering to all government and privacy regulations.

Cybersecurity Awareness: Protecting Yourself

Protecting your information is a shared responsibility. Be vigilant against threats like phishing, scams, and online exploitation.

  1. Vetting Digital Communications (Phishing & Scams)
  • Verify the Sender: Always check the full email address for spelling errors or non-official domains (e.g., watch out for .com instead of .gov).
  • Hover Over Links: Before clicking any link, hover your mouse over it (or long-press on mobile) to view the true destination URL.
  • Be Wary of Urgency: Scammers often use threats or extreme urgency (“Your account will be suspended!”) to rush your decision. Official communication rarely does this.
  • Never Share Credentials: Our portal will never ask you for your full password or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) code via email, text, or phone call.

2. New Threats: QR Codes & Exploitation

  • Avoid QR Code Fraud (Quishing):
    • Do not scan QR codes in unexpected emails, random flyers, or public places (like parking meters) if they demand payment or sensitive data.
    • Always verify the destination website after scanning a code; check for HTTPS and the correct, trusted URL.
    • Don’t enter any sensitive information like passwords or bank numbers or ID details on websites accessed through a QR code unless you’re 100% sure they are safe.

  • Prevent Online Exploitation:
    • Do not share internal government messages, payment confirmations, or order details from our portal on social media or in public forums.
    • Treat any sensitive information you receive from us as private to prevent exploitation by identity thieves.

3. Essential Security Steps

  • Use MFA: Enable Multi-Factor Authentication on all accounts that support it.
  • Update Software: Keep your operating system, web browser, and apps updated to use the latest security patches.

4. Our Commitment to Staff Security

We ensure the security of the portal and your data through continuous internal efforts:

  • Mandatory Training: All government personnel undergo recurring security awareness training, including real-world phishing simulations.
  • Strict Access Control: Access to sensitive citizen data is granted only on a strict need-to-know basis.
  • Regular Audits: We conduct routine security audits to test our controls and verify compliance with all legal and industry standards.
