Certification Schemes for Green Building Materials and Products
The Dubai Green Building Regulations and Specifications was issued in 2010 and, initially, was applicable as mandatory requirement for construction of new government buildings. In 2016, the regulation was re-issued as AL SA'FAT - Dubai Green Building Evaluation System.
On 13-Feb-2014, Dubai Municipality Building Department issued Circular (198) 2014, providing for the mandatory implementation of the Dubai Green Building Regulations and Specification (GBRS) on all new constructions and buildings within the Emirate of Dubai, effective 01 Mar 2014.
The purpose of the Dubai GBRS is to improve the performance of buildings in Dubai by reducing the consumption of energy, water and materials, improving public health, safety and general welfare, and, by enhancing the planning, design, construction and operation of buildings, to create an excellent city that provides the essence of success and comfort of sustainable living.
The regulations intend to support Dubai’s Strategic Plan, create more sustainable urban environment and extend the ability of the Emirate’s infrastructure to meet the needs of future development.
In line with this, DCLD Certification Body has identified the relevant clauses in the regulations where certification is required, and developed certification schemes to address these requirements.
Below are the certification schemes currently available at DCLD:
The DCLD implements two types of certification, namely: (1) Factory Assessment and (2) System 1.
Specific Rules number starting with RD-DP21-nnnn (IC) are carried out under Factory Assessment, while Specific Rules number starting with RD-DP32-nnnn (IC) are carried out under System 1.
